about

Caprice No. 24 is without a doubt one of the outstanding works of the celebrated virtuoso violinist, Niccolò Paganini. An arrangement of this piece by Mikhail Mchedelov is more of a reworking than a mere transcription of Paganini's work. Here, I have sought to draw on Paganini's musical text while associating the harp's technical feats to those of the violin as revealed in each of the variations. A number of effects are used: bisbigliando, harmonics, arpeggios . My purpose was to preserve the authenticity of the tour de force expressed in this exceptional work. From a technical standpoint, this arrangement requires the harpist to tackle difficulties similar to those of a violin: jumps, rapidity and velocity. Only when it comes to accuracy can the harp easily outstrip the violin, provided it has been properly tuned at the outset!
