Despite his early death, Franz Schubert left behind a vast repertoire of timeless melodies, of which Ständchen is certainly one of the best known. Its piano adaptation by the virtuoso Franz Liszt (1811-1886) is often called Ständchen and forms part of Schwanengesang (Swan Song). The famous pianist used two verses and wrote the text above the score, although it was not meant to be sung, but rather to inspire the performer. The resulting arrangement combines the respective forces of these two great musicians: the beauty of Schubert's melody and Liszt's virtuosity. It took me only a few minor adaptations to make this masterpiece more "harpistic".

Malgré sa courte vie, Franz Schubert a laissé derrière lui un vaste répertoire de mélodies intemporelles, dont Ständchen est certainement l’une des plus connues. L’adaptation pour piano réalisée par le virtuose Franz Liszt (1811-1886) est tirée de Schwanengesang (Le chant du cygne). Franz Liszt utilise deux couplets et écrit le texte au-dessus de la partition, même s’il n’est pas destiné à être chanté, mais plutôt à inspirer l'interprète. L’arrangement qui en résulte combine les forces respectives de ces deux grands musiciens; la beauté de la mélodie chez Schubert et la virtuosité chez Liszt. Je n’ai eu qu’à y faire des adaptations mineures afin de rendre ce chef-d’œuvre plus « harpistique ».
